How long does it take to become a pilot in Oregon?
It depends on your goals and how often you train. Many students earn their Private Pilot License (PPL) in 4–6 months with consistent training. Career-track students working toward their Commercial Pilot License (CPL) and Airline Transport Pilot (ATP) can expect 18–24 months on average.
How much does flight training cost?
Costs vary depending on which certificates and ratings you pursue, how quickly you progress, and whether you train full-time or part-time. Our 12-month pilot training program costs $72,651 and includes 238 flight hours and six ratings.
Do I need prior flying experience to start?
No experience required. Most students begin with no flight time at all. Our instructors will start with the basics and build your skills step by step.
What are the eligibility requirements?
To start airplane training, you must be at least 16 years old for a Student Pilot Certificate and 17 for a Private Pilot License. You’ll also need to pass an FAA medical exam and be able to read, speak, and understand English.
What’s the difference between a PPL and CPL?
A Private Pilot License (PPL) lets you fly for fun and personal travel, but you cannot accept payment. A Commercial Pilot License (CPL) allows you to get paid to fly people or cargo. Many students start with a PPL and later continue training toward their CPL.
How do I build enough flight hours to get hired?
The most common path is becoming a flight instructor. Teaching new pilots allows you to log hundreds of hours while earning income. Pureflight also helps students explore other hour-building opportunities.

Do I need a college degree to become an airline pilot?
