Earn Your Associate Degree in Aviation Sciences at Klamath Community College
Our partnership with Klamath Community College offers you the best of both worlds: academic credentials and professional flight certifications. It also means you can finance your pilot training through flight training loans and federal student aid programs!
During this 2-year degree, you’ll earn your:
- Private Pilot Certificate
- Commercial Pilot Certificate
- Instrument Rating
- Certified Flight Instructor (CFI)
- Certified Flight Instructor – Instrument (CFII)

Financial Aid Available
You have several ways to fund your Pureflight training, whether you pursue the Associate Degree at KCC or the vocational flight training pathway.
Use Your 529 Plan
If you have 529 funds, you can apply them toward your Pureflight training in two ways:
- Through Klamath Community College’s Aviation Sciences program;
- Directly with Pureflight for Vocational Flight Training, based on recent updates to 529-eligible programs.
Federal Financial Aid (KCC Degree Pathway)
If you enroll through Klamath Community College, you may qualify for federal grants, scholarships, and loans under the Higher Education Act of 1965 (Title IV). Available aid includes:
- Federal Pell Grant (up to $7,395/year, 2025-26)
- Federal Work-Study Program
- Direct Stafford Subsidized Loan
- Direct Stafford Unsubsidized Loan
To apply for financial aid, you submit a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) every year at www.fafsa.ed.gov.
Private Student Loans
Private pilot student loans are available from private lending institutions to bridge the gap between education cost and federal financial aid.

FAQ About Student Pilot Loans
Can I really finance my entire flight training through student loans?
Yes! Through our partnership with Klamath Community College, your flight training is part of an accredited degree program, which makes it eligible for federal student loans and financial aid. This is one of the most affordable ways to become a pilot.
What if I don’t qualify for federal financial aid?
You have multiple options: private student loans through Sallie Mae and other lenders, payment plans, scholarships, and military benefits (for VA benefit users). Our financial aid advisors will help you find the best combination for your situation.
What are the admission requirements?
Before being admitted into the program, there are a number of requirements that must be satisfied. Contact the Aviation Program Director at 541-880-2263 to learn more about admission requirements.
How long does the program take to complete?
The Associate’s Degree program is designed as a 2-year program. However, completion time can vary based on weather, your pace of training, and whether you’re studying full-time or part-time.
Is the Associate’s Degree required, or can I just get the flight training?
To access federal student loans and financial aid, you must be enrolled in the degree program. The degree also enhances your credentials with airlines and employers while providing important aviation knowledge.
